As reported by “Atomflot” company press service, “50 Let Pobedy” nuclear-powered icebreaker has set a new speed record on Mourmansk – the North Pole route, making the journey to the planet’s northmost point in 79 hours.
According to the press centre of Atomfot Federal State Unitary Enterprise, its Mourmansk Branch has completed a scheduled shipyard overhaul of “Vaygach” nuclear-powered icebreaker. The vessel’s condition currently meets all applicable standards, so it is prepared to efficiently and safely escort ships through the Northern Sea Route.
According to Atomflot press centre, on July 19 “Taimyr” nuclear-powered icebreaker successfully completed the escort of two vessels’ convoy towards Sabetta port.
On June 30 nuclear-powered icebreakers of Rosatomflot Federal State Unitary Enterprise (FSUE) completed their contractual work of winter-spring navigation 2016-2017. The tourist season will last till mid August.
Vassiliy Osmakov, Deputy RF Minister of Industry and Trade, told TASS News Agency on the sidelines of the International Arctic Forum that in late 2017 Russia’s Shipyards will be Prepared for Construction of an Icebreaker with 120 MW capacity.
